Sony's CES booth tour

Today we had a chance to walk around and get some hands-on time with a bunch of the products Sony's been pimping so far at CES during the press preview and the Stringer keynote. Here's a visual smorgasboard of the eye candy in the Sony booth:

The Sony Ericsson W810i is reminiscent of our beloved K750i except it will ship with a headphone connector that will actually let you plug in any standard 1/8-inch headphones. We're not huge fans of the confusing three-buttons-in-one interface and the loss of the dipstick, but the dedicated media controls are nice. This'll be out in the States in Q1.

The new Vaio SZ notebook:

is the usual thin and light goodness from Sony. That EDGE radio on the right side seems like it would be dangerously prone to snapping right off, though.

The NW-A3000 Walkman:

The Sony Reader:

Obligatory PS3 pr0n:

A new Cybershot, the DSC-T9 is a 6.0 megapixel cam that'll be available in about a month for $449.

The 82-inch Bravia display prototype supporting xvYCC:

The DCR-SR100 Handycam hard drive DV cam:

The DCR-DVD505 Handycam:

And of course, mucho Blu-ray schwag:

is ps3 really late 2006/early 2007? boo i thought it was spring 06...
JamesP @ Jan 7th 2006 2:53AM
I had my hopes up that PS3 had scrapped the boomerang controller as some sites said it was missing from the display, but you can clearly see it there... GUTTED!

I doubt they meant that Sony was giving away free Blu-Ray movies, just that they were showing them. I know, "schwag" often means "free trade-show giveaway", but I think it was probably mis-used in this case.

Wow that 82" HDTV made me cry =]i mean the price would be ok if you can afford it but where would you put it in your house!

Yeah! First shots of BR packaging!
I want to see more, specially the inside. They don't have the same UMD cartridges, right? Damm _

Any mention at the Sony Booth of the US release of the newest TX series notebooks? The VGN-TX90PS has already been released in Japan and I am holding out from purchasing the TX650 because I want the TX90. Any word from the show?

"Wow that 82" HDTV made me cry =]i mean the price would be ok if you can afford it but where would you put it in your house!"
I have a 73'' HDTV... fit's just fine, though it sorta dominates the room... (And no, it wasn't anywhere near as expensive as that bravia will be.) :)
I'm for Blu-Ray, but Sony's BD showing is ... pathetic. HD-DVD is fighting to win, with solid release dates, loss-leader pricing and GOOD movies! Sony has only like 2 movies that say "wow I'd go Blu-Ray for that!" has been thin on every possible release date, and is pricey (I'll give them the last one, since that was expected... Gen1 DVD went out at a grand also).
Oh, and AFAIK, the PS3 has NO RELEASE DATE. So the "early 2007" comment is as full-of-it as any other comment... the only thing "solid" is that Sony has said Spring 2006 for Japan, and even that was too vague to count on.
Did I mention thin on release dates?
